Salamanca is a contemporary, university city that is alive 24 hours a day. It is always open, ready to welcome visitors and give them the richness of its heritage, its culture, its young atmosphere and its gastronomy. The city is a World Heritage Site since 1988.
Strolling through its monumental setting, we find essential places to visit such as its Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful and largest squares in Spain and one of the capital baroque monuments of urban planning and peninsular architecture. The silhouette of the cathedrals presides over the Salamanca skyline. The House of Shells is one of the most popular palaces in Salamanca and one of the best examples of Spanish civil Gothic architecture.
The Historic University Building is one of the most important buildings in Salamanca and one of the jewels of Spanish Renaissance art. The Roman Bridge, the Clerecía, the San Esteban Convent or the Anaya Palace, as well as the numerous churches and convents are other essential stops.
Salamanca is also a historic city that is at the same time modern and avant-garde, with a diverse and high-quality cultural offer. Gastronomy is also another of its great attractions.
Salamanca is an ideal destination for conferences, conventions or incentive trips as it has à la carte guided tours, nature activities, gastronomic experiences and excursions as part of its wide range of activities.
In the province, the grassland constitutes Salamanca’s landscape par excellence, as well as being an example of a sustainable ecosystem.
The province of Salamanca has five protected natural areas, with a total surface of 210,282 hectares. Among them are the Natural Parks of Arribes del Duero and Las Batuecas – Sierra de Francia, the natural area of El Rebollar, the Sierra de Candelario and the Sierra de Las Quilamas. In addition, the province has two spaces declared Biosphere Reserves. These are the Sierra de Béjar and Francia Biosphere Reserve and the Iberian Cross-Border Biosphere Reserve, which includes the lands of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park. Salamanca also has eleven special protection areas for birds and thirteen special conservation areas.
The festivals and popular customs, the rich and diverse gastronomy and the numerous entertainment possibilities are other reasons for visiting the province. Some examples are the Carnaval del Toro festivities in Ciudad Rodrigo, the Corpus Christi in Béjar and the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción festivities in La Alberca, all of them declared as national tourist attractions. The massacre of Guijuelo, the Charrada of Ciudad Rodrigo, the Noveno de San Felices de los Gallegos, the Corpus Christi of La Alberca, the Boda Típica de Candelario, the Santa Teresa festivities in Alba de Tormes and the Procesión de los Candiles de Miranda del Castañar, all of them considered as regional tourist attractions.
